Basics on Reiki Healing

healing arts41 Basics on Reiki Healing

Energy is source of life and life is energy. Energy is a multi-directional force. All together Reiki is a word composed of ‘rei’ [Rei: rain of] and “ki” [Ki: life force] which means Universal Life Energy brought through personal healing for the purposes of healing. Enter a library, a bookshop or visit the internet and collect as much as you want about Reiki. It is there it is available, it is rich, it is often colorful and even more often, peaceful and grateful.

The energy around us is life force energy and it can be used for healing purposes, naturally and effortlessly. Unless on meditative state, only a change in the smell or feeling of the air that would raise consciousness of the existence of air and energy. Most of the time breathing is natural, automatically. Breathe in, breathe out. Noticing a change in the air would only occur in presence of a smell, or a feeling about it (cool, hot, perfume, pollution). Experience the air upon entering a room where a baby is sleeping, or a temple, a church, a cave, or a room where an argument just occurred. This is called to open to consciousness of existence. Become conscious of the breathing. Just as oxygen can be extracted from the air and given to a person who needs it, there is a healing, balancing band or vibration in the energy surrounding that can be channeled and offered to a person in the same way. Reiki balances the energies in the body and strengthens the life forces. Energy is a vibrational frequency that permeates life and can be channeled, for healing purposes. One way of doing this is through healing treatments and further initiations in the Usui System of Natural Healing. Reiki practitioner learns how to filter the energy, transmit healing energy to ourselves and to others or whatever we touch. Quantum physics describes energy and its frequency and the interconnection between one field [the body] and the other [the surrounding] field There is a common understanding that the human body energetic fields comprise of a physical body, and an etherical body [the aura] both interacting with the larger energy field, the Universe. Reiki is activated through hands-on treatments, and once the practitioner is aligned to the Reiki energetic field s/he can move to deeper levels of understanding of healing, through symbols and meditation.

Beautifully, Reiki is not a sect, a mysterious practice, a religion, nor a dogmatic teaching. Reiki is a philosophy of life. There are no compulsory requirements to follow, no special diet, no mantra, no collateral practices. It is pure, simple transparent and common sense. The corollary of a healing process is the birth of a way of life with layers of unnecessary habits dropping one by one, cleansing the body and the mind from energy blockages and opening the chakras. One cannot expect to undertake healing and continue to eat processed, fatty, fried, oily and colored food. It just is a contradiction. One can indeed expect healing to foster an immense liberation from both mental and physical toxins, through regular treatments. Fees for treatments are set, and an agreement is made prior to a treatment about it, there is neither speculation nor gambling. As a healing technique and although rooted in the Eastern tradition, Reiki is neutral, comes from the universe and blends with all beliefs and ways of life. It can be used as a self-healing and personal development tool or expand into a holistic practice for others and the universe, a broader goal of serving others and offer healing.

Reiki is a healing method of hands-on treatments. There are levels of practice and of teachings which include symbols and sounds [Kotodama] giving Reiki a sacred meaning. The Internet is a large pool where anyone can pick symbols available and read many opinions about how to use them. Discussing the sacred character of Reiki is not the purpose here and no mention will be made of symbols and sounds. This is not the purpose here. The ‘Ways of the Symbols’ how to use them and how the empowerment is manifested remains in the hands of those who know them. Practice, with peers, with oneself, and adequate guidance from a teacher is instrumental not in enhancing the way the symbols would work, but rather to understand the way they work. As many know, the key in Reiki is practice. Using the symbols without knowing how to draw them and without having been accompanied in the learning is not being recommended. It just is waste of time.

When a Reiki Master and a Reiki Master Teacher introduces him or herself, s/he will mention the lineage which his or her teachings originate. This is important and a reference for the person who receives a treatment but crucial for the person who receives teachings and becomes a practitioner. There are no traditions better than the other rather better ways to suit a culture or another and within each culture a way to learn, a way to transfer and receive knowledge and the tools associated with it. Again together with the lineage it is the integrity of the teacher and the principles of transfer of knowledge remain paramount. When a Reiki Master Teacher omits to specify his or her lineage, integrity is lost.
